Fort Atkinson Half Marathon Spectators
Running a half marathon can be a daunting task.  With the support of enthusiastic spectators the run may seem less daunting.  Here are some tips for all the spectators.
  • Know your runners projected pace per mile.  Consult the Pace Chart to figure out where your runner will be on the course at different times.
  • We are asking all spectators to stay off of the course from miles 2 to 6.5.  This section includes Hwy K, the Lee Rd loop, Star School Rd and Poeppel Rd.  This stretch is in the country and we would like to decrease any car traffic if possible for the safety of the runners.  Plus the runners will need your encouragement in the second half of the race.
  • We are recommending the following viewing locations:

**The best way to navigate stations 3-8 is to be on the “inside” of the loop.  That way you do not have to cross running traffic.**

  • Cheer Loud and Cheer Often.
  • Runners like NOISE…cowbells, music, pennies in a milk jug, etc.
  • While waiting for your runner, cheer for everyone that passes.  Only offer words of encouragement.  Below is a list of what to say

    1.  “You can do it!”
    2.
    “Looking good!”
    3.
    “You’re doing awesome!”
    4.  “Looking strong!”
    5.
    “Way to run!”
    6.
Some runners will have their names on their shirts…use it.
                 “Looking good Joel”
    7.
DO NOT say “Almost there”…unless you are on Grove St.
    8.
DO NOT say how many mile to go…unless you actually know how many miles are left.
  • Remember the food tent at the finish is only for the runners.
  • Don’t forget to visit the Relay For Life Pancake Breakfast, Generals Fest and Farmers Market.
  • Thanks for Cheering on the Runners!!!
